Plain answers to the questions owners ask most. If yours isn't here, get in touch and we will answer it.
What is an AI agent?
An AI agent is a program that uses AI to carry out tasks for a person. It can visit websites, follow links, read documentation and, in some cases, act for the user, for example by completing a booking or an order.
Will this let anyone scrape my site?
No. AgentReady is about letting agents reach and read your public content. It does not remove your control. You decide what is off-limits, you can let verified agents through bot protection, and you can throttle with 429 responses. Being AgentReady and being in control are designed to work together.
Do I need a developer?
Not for the free report or the onboarding call. Most upgrades do touch the website itself, such as robots.txt, how pages are rendered and structured data, so in practice you will usually need a developer or someone comfortable editing your site. We guide you or your developer through each step.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size of your site and how many fixes it needs. The free report is quick to receive, and the upgrade is paced to your priorities. [TIMELINE: typical duration for each step, to be confirmed by Ben.]
What's in the free report?
The report scans your site against the Find, Read and Act requirements. It shows what passes, what’s missing and which items are MUST requirements, so you know what to fix first. You receive it without any obligation to continue.
Who wrote the standard?
AgentReady is written by ora.ai and Vercel. Version 2.0 was published in October 2026. The canonical site is agentready.org, and the standard is open source under the MIT licence on GitHub, with the dataset behind it.
Does it help with Google too?
AgentReady is about AI agents, not search rankings, and we do not promise any effect on Google. Several of its practices, such as answers in the HTML, structured data, a sitemap and one current reference page, are also good for search engines, so they tend to help both.
